Photographers are invited to submit artwork that reflects the intrigue of Route 66 that calls travelers from around the world to the 2,448 mile journey. The experience that has inspired today’s Americana is one that is best remembered through personal stories of travel and adventure. The medium of photography is essential to capturing those memories and through your unique perspective will allow us to experience the “Mother Road” along with so many others.

Special Division: Estate Vintage

Given the rich history of Route 66, we are creating a special category for vintage photos taken by photographers who may no longer be with us, but have contributed to our understanding and the legacy of Route 66. Family members and estate representatives can submit photographs on behalf of a deceased artist within this category and are eligible for the $250 award. Individuals are encouraged to submit artwork that reflect the stories we’ve collected across generations traveling Route 66. These stories have be collected while using equipment that could be obsolete or rarely used in contemporary approaches to photography that would be exciting to include among our exhibition.

RULES & FAQs

Open to photographers, 18 years and above, from any part of the US.

Professional, & Amateur Photographers, and Representatives (vintage estate).

  • File Specifications – RGB | JPG Format | 72 dpi | must be equal to 2000px (longer side)
  • No Watermarks / Copyright Units / Logos on images
  • Only Bleed photographs without Borders
  • Online uploads only for all entries

A single amateur submission will cost $5.00.
A single professional submission will cost $10.00.

If your main source of income is photography, you are considered a professional photographer. Those who seek or make a livelihood by practice of photography are professional photographers.

If your main source of income is not photography, you are considered an amateur photographer. Those (beginners and regulars) who randomly make photographs or / and show an active interest in photography, though not necessarily to earn an income, are amateurs.

No. There is no restriction on when the entry image was created.

Entrants must ensure they own undisputed copyrights to their respective entries uploaded for the awards. Copyright of all photographs submitted rest with the photographer.

Fairplex may use all entries submitted for marketing & promoting the LA County Fair Photo Competition although there will not be any monetary compensation for the same.

Neither Fairplex nor their associates, affiliates or partners assume any responsibility for photos submitted in violation of competition rules / copyright regulations. Images that demonstrate violations on copyright and/or competition policies will be removed & disqualified by Fairplex after due investigations.

If your artwork is selected, you will be responsible for providing a print for the exhibition and either mailing or delivering it to Fairplex. All entries must be ready to hang. Prints cannot be larger than 11” x 17”.

Artwork that is selected for the exhibition will need to be picked up on Wednesday September 26, 2018 from 8am-7pm only. UPS return shipping available for a fee of $20 payable at the time of drop off. Must include return shipping packaging material.

Submissions are not guaranteed entry in to the exhibition.

Sure. You can submit a photograph that was submitted / awarded in any other contest in the past.

There is only one award per division (Professional, Amateur and Vintage Estate). Awards are not provided for each category within the three divisions.

Categories are provided as recommendations for the type of work we are hoping to include within the exhibition. Artists are welcome to submit work outside of the suggested categories.

In addition to monetary awards, we are partnering with the Photoshoot Factory’s gallery located on Second Street in the heart of Downtown Pomona to offer a solo or group show to selected artists who reside in Los Angeles County.

Artists will be notified after the judging period in May and will have the summer to prepare. The exhibition that will be held during Pomona’s 2nd Saturday Art Walk in both September (concurrent with the LA County Fair) and October.
